I Want to Know More: Survey of Music History
Instructor: Brent Erstad
This is an eight-week survey of Western Art Music extending from the dawn of musical literacy to the present. Throughout the course, we will strive to focus not only on the relevant composers and compositions of the given period, but also on the social, cultural and economic forces that shaped them-always endeavoring to answer the question 'why?'. One session will be dedicated to each of the seven major movements in music history, with the final class reserved for a special topic of the class's choosing. The class meets on select Wednesday evenings, 7:30-8:30pm.
