Suzuki Talent Education
Shinichi Suzuki (1898-1998) was a violinist, educator, philosopher and humanitarian. He devoted his life to the development of the method he called Talent Education. Dr. Suzuki believed that "Musical ability is not an inborn talent but an ability which can be developed. Any child who is properly trained can develop musical ability, just as all children develop the ability to speak their mother tongue. The potential of every child is unlimited." Dr. Suzuki's goal was not to develop professional musicians, but to nurture and help develop each child's character through the study of music.

Some basic principles of the Suzuki approach are:

  • Musical ability can be developed in all children;
  • Students begin at young ages;
  • Parents must play an active role in the learning process;
  • Children become comfortable with the instrument before learning to read music;
  • Technique is taught in the context of pieces;
  • Pieces are refined through constant review; and
  • Students perform frequently; individually and in groups
Creative Arts' Suzuki Talent Education program is a unique way to make music a part of your family's life. Before registering for lessons, parents are required to observe several Suzuki lessons at Creative Arts (you may schedule an observation by calling the office at 781-942-9600). The Suzuki method requires regular attendance by parents and students at lessons, group classes, workshops and recitals. You owe it to your Suzuki child to be free of distraction during lessons. Siblings who can quietly attend lessons are welcome as long as they do not distract anyone. New parents are required to take the Parent Class in order to fully understand the philosophy and commitment of the program.

A $35 non-refundable family registration fee is charged per school year for the music program. Enrollment after January 1, 2012 will incur a $20 non-refundable registration fee.
